Women of Faith : "Yes, We Can!"

On a crisp Thursday morning, ten women from five local churches met in a future Habitat for Humanity home for a day of work and fellowship. The goal of the insulation installation was to pass inspection to earn the Energy Star rating. The morning got kicked off with a prayer and then they quickly got to work. They sealed up holes around electrical and plumbing fixtures that could create drafts. They cut a path in the insulation for the electrical wiring with a utility knife and installed insulation with a hammer stapler. They used a power saw to cut vinyl siding for the porch. They got the hang of how much push pressure to use to manage the torque of the cordless drill, and attached spindles to the porch railing. They washed their hands with ice cold water. They broke bread as they talked about the recent wildfires in California and the school district vote. They laughed together as they got a bit grimy. At the end of the day, their work helped to earn the Energy Star qualification, which will keep up to 4,500 pounds of greenhouse gases out of our air each year. And they learned that by doing God’s work, they are more powerful than they ever knew.

“Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.”—Albert Einstein
